Design Objective  | Print Design  |  T-shirt Design  |  Social Media Marketing
This project was developed through a fictitious design agency, Venus – Empowering Design, for the GRD 249 – Advanced Design Practice class. The team members’ jobs are as follows: I served as the Creative Director, Amber Cornell as the Art Director, and April Shuford as the Production Manager. The client had provided us with the circular Science After Dark logo and requested for the team to develop a marketing campaign that would coincide with the series of Science After Dark events that are hosted by the Catawba Science Center of Hickory, NC. The marketing campaign includes printed design materials and a full-scale social media campaign.
Science After Dark
Marketing Campaign for Catawba Science Center
Print Design  |  T-shirt Design  |  Social Media Marketing

Design Brief
The target audience for these events is individuals 21 years or older who have expendable income. All proceeds from the Science After Dark events are used for the enrichment of the Catawba Science Center funding and programs.
Each piece of the marketing material began with the development of the t-shirt design. By using the crescent moon shape from the logo, we utilized Gestalt’s principle of continuation to create the liquid’s flow between each beaker and glass. From there, we pulled some of the graphical elements of the t-shirt and placed them symmetrically on the generic poster that features all the events for the 2020 series. The pattern was created with bubbles and stars in varying sizes that come out of the beakers in to the galaxy. The poster templates replicate the same graphics and typographical hierarchy from the generic poster design. From the design of the t-shirt and posters, we developed multiple stickers and buttons that are derived from the same aesthetic of the entire campaign.
From there, we did research on the Catawba Science Center’s current social media presence and developed a social media campaign. The campaign consists of a series of posts to be used across multiple social media platforms. Together, all of these pieces are  consistently unified through the use of variety, repetition, and design styles.
